How Do I Meet People?

The Ridge is not only a place to grow in your knowledge and relationship with God, but it is also a place where you can connect to a warm loving community of people, just like yourself.

Whether you are a five-year old child, a ninety-five year old grandmother, a busy mom, or a businessman with big responsibilities, we want you to be a part of our vibrant church community. Here is how you can learn, serve, and grow at The Ridge.  You will have many opportunities to attend a variety of services, small groups and events to help you grow in your knowledge and connection to God and in your connection with other people.

Small Groups

Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, The Ridge has a variety of small groups and bible studies that you can connect with. The size of the groups range anywhere from 3 to 15.

Climbing Higher

Climbing Higher is a weekly Bible Study held on Tuesday nights from 7 PM-9 PM.  It is friendly, fun and a great time to Climb Higher in your knowledge of God’s Word and in growing closer to God and others.  The evening begins with a time of worship where those in attendance get to choose from the church hymnal songs that they would like to sing. Following this there is a time of sharing prayer requests and praise reports. Then there is a time of Bible Study usually using a video-Bible study format from nationally known speakers and teachers.  This time is followed by discussion and a time to study the Bible led by Pastor Stephen. It is a fun, relaxing and inspiring opportunity to grow in relationships with God and with people in the church and in your knowledge of God and the Bible.

Children and Youth Ministry

Each Sunday morning, THE RIDGE KIDZ get to participate in their own classes. Bible lessons are taught in such a way that every child gets to participate and learn. Each of the class teachers is carefully screened and teachers always work in at least pairs when teaching.

Men’s Group

A monthly men’s breakfast is held at the church the first Saturday of each month from 8 AM to 10 AM. The men also attend the annual “Iron Sharpens Iron” conference. There are also many opportunities for the men to work together in a variety of building and development projects.

Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of The Ridge is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. The Ridge members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as cleaning the church, to preparing the church bulletins.

What Is Your SHAPE?

Many people would like to serve but they are unsure of what their spiritual gifts and talents are.  As a result of this they can be unsure where they would best be able to serve given their unique talents, experiences and personality.

SHAPE is a tool that we use at The Ridge to help people determine their unique talents, abilities and gifts.  SHAPE is an assessment tool adapted from Saddleback Church in California that allows you to discover your unique SHAPE for ministry.  SHAPE stands for Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences. This assessment tool can help you discover what your unique SHAPE for ministry is.  Contact Pastor Stephen if you are interested in discovering your SHAPE for ministry.

Opportunities To Serve

Music

God-honoring and people uplifting worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our worship team ministry, called RIDGEFIRE! Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists.  These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of The Ridge, using their talents and gifts to glorify God. Those with musical talents can also have opportunities to offer special music during services.  Brenda Berry oversees the worship team and special music.  If interested in using your musical talents and abilities you may contact her to determine the needs of the church at that time.

Greeters/Hospitality

The Greeter  teams at The Ridge fill an important role. They are involved in greeting and welcoming visitors and regular attenders.  They can be involved in making coffee, setting up the snacks, directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction,  and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The greeter  team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.

Media & Technology

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of The Ridge. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship responsibility  to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. The Media and Technology team needs people willing to operate the slides during worship services, do sound mixing and those who can help with our web-site and other audio-visual outreaches and outreach events.

Prayer Ministry Team

In order to assist the pastoral staff in ministering to the needs of people, The Ridge has a team of individuals selected by the Pastor to assist him in praying for the needs of people during the morning worship services.  Those asked to serve in this capacity have exhibited a Biblical knowledge of God’s Word and a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.  If you feel like this is a ministry that you are feeling called to, then you can contact Pastor Stephen or Beth Butler.

Children’s Church

In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, The Ridge holds a children’s church service in conjunction with the main service. Children are present in the main sanctuary during our initial musical worship time with RIDGEFIRE, the church’s worship team.  Following this time, the children are able to leave and attend children’s church.  This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church volunteers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from puppet shows, to games, to object lessons.

Men’s Ministry

Once a month at The Ridge on the first Saturday of each month, the men of the church meet for a breakfast and a time of fellowship and a devotional. The breakfasts are from 8-10 AM and offer eggs, bacon (Pastor Stephen’s specialty, coffee and toast.  Volunteers are needed to set up, cook, clean up and share a testimony or bring a devotional.  The men of the church also participate in yearly men’s retreats, such as Iron Sharpens Iron, etc. Much of the physical work of the church is done by a variety of men and women in the church, who volunteer their talents and time to make improvements to the church property.

Building and Grounds

The Ridge is blessed to own 14 acres of land, which sits on both sides of Ridge Road.  The church itself sits on about 4 acres along with the church parsonage.  Directly across from the church are 10 acres of land, which are presently used for over-flow parking for special services at the church.  The church building itself is a converted barn with 3 floors  totaling about 9000 square feet.  Prior to the church obtaining the property, it was a book distribution center and offices for the Brookfield Publishing Company and the Ashgate Publishing Co.  Since acquiring the property in 2002, there have been many improvements made to the property in order to more effectively minister God’s love and truth to the community and to those who attend services at The Ridge.  There is a long-range plan for the development and improvement of the property and as funds and resources are available we continue to work towards the continued maintenance and improvement of the property. In order to do this, we need men and women who are willing to participate and serve on the Building and Grounds team.  The skills needed for this team can be as diverse as swinging a hammer, mowing the lawn, cleaning the church, interior design, landscaping, stone wall building, and painting, etc..

Menig Nursing Home Outreach

Once a month a team of volunteers goes to Gifford Hospital in Randolph, VT to the Menig Extended Care facility where we hold a worship service for the residents.  The service consists of a worship team, who lead those in attendance in singing and worship. Following the worship time, one of the volunteers of The Ridge bring a short devotional message which is followed by personal prayer by the prayer/ministry team for all the residents in attendance accompanied by the worship team maintaining an atmosphere of worship during this time of prayer.
