More About The Sports Camp From Pastor Stephen:
The Ridge SporStephen-Thinkingts Camp began in 2012 with an idea from my son, Rev. Jared Berry, who at the time was the Youth Pastor for Bethlehem Assembly of God in Valley Stream, NY (On Long Island).   He had brought other smaller groups from Long Island to VT for short retreats and when he became the youth Pastor of “Omni” a youth group of around 100 teens.  He thought a sports camp would be a great way for the teens in Long Island to come and experience the beauty of Vermont and the country and also have a great opportunity to give back to others by serving and encouraging young people in Vermont.

The last two years and this year Rev. Vinny LiVechi and his wife Julia, the Youth Pastors for what is now known as Bethlehem Youth Church  brought about 40 Youth Coaches to run the camp each day.  My son, jared is now the Young Adult Pastor at Bethlehem Assembly of God.

The support of the community for the camp has been overwhelming and appreciated.  The camp was held at Vermont Technical College for the first 4 years, but this year Norwich has agreed to host the camp for us.  Other local businesses have helped to support The Sports Camp. Dimmick’s Septic , Valley Bowl, The Randolph Chamber of Commerce and of course many volunteers from THE RIDGE have all helped to make The Ridge Sports Camp a great success each year.

This year due to a scheduling conflict with VTC they were not able to host the camp.  So we reached out to Norwich University in Northfield, VT and they graciously agreed to host the camp at Norwich University.
Since the camp has been in the Randolph area since it’s beginning and we moved it to Northfield at Norwich University, we wanted to allow the Randolph Area Youth and their families easy access to the camp by offering free bus services from the Randolph Ctr., Park and Ride to Norwich each day and a return to the Park and  Ride at the end of camp each day.  We want to thank Student Transportation of America for making a bus available to us for the camp. I

The camp was totally free for all the participants.  The costs were covered by the teens and young adult leaders from Long Island as another way to give back  and The Ridge.  Each child who attends the camp will received a free t-shirt, water bottle  and a backpack.  The camp was for children ages 5 to 12. There were two sports tracks, one for children ages 5 to 9 yrs old and another for pre-teens ages 10 to 12 years old.  The camp offered soccer, kickball, wiffle ball and cheer leading.  The sports camp incorporated messages about faith, hope, God,  love and sportsmanship into the camp experience each day.

On Friday, the last day of camp there was a free Bar-B-Cue and Awards presentation at THE RIDGE  in Brookfield, VT beginning at 6 PM.  There were snow cones, pop corn, cotton candy and games and a bouncy house for all the family to enjoy and of course  plenty of great food.
